Kanye West – born Kanye Omari West – has formally filed to change his name to Ye. TMZ reported that Yeezy filed legal documents in Los Angeles requesting that his name officially be changed to just his nickname, Ye. Kanye had previously alluded to his plans for a name change in a 2018 tweet: “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.”

Kanye’s request for a name change comes amid preparations for his third listening event for Donda, the much-delayed follow-up to Jesus Is King.   He is in the process of replicating his childhood home in Chicago’s Soldier Field ahead of the event on Thursday, Aug. 26. The show is set to kick off at 9 p.m. CST and will reportedly be live-streamed on Apple Music.
